In the southern part of Brazil, on December 15 a strong gust of wind caused the collapse of a 24-meter-tall replica of the Statue of Liberty. The incident occurred in the city of Guaíba near Porto Alegre, which is part of the metropolitan region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. No one was injured, local publications report.

Earlier, the local civil defense service declared a red level of danger due to the strong winds; residents were advised to stay at home, unplug electrical appliances, and tightly close doors and windows.
