Newt Gingrich on Thursday described the role he would like to play for the Trump administration — but says he would like to do it from outside the government.
“My goal is to be senior planner looking at the totality of the federal government and thinking through how to redesign it,” the former Republican House Speaker said on a conference call organized by the law firm Dentons that The Daily Caller listened in on.
“And to do that,” Gingrich said, “really as an outsider, because I think it’s virtually impossible to be in the government and maintain the strategic focus you need if you want very very large scale change. So that’s what I hope I’ll be able to work out.”
Gingrich, who has been one of Donald Trump’s most prominent supporters, has been speculated about as member of the Trump administration, including possibly as as secretary of state or White House chief of staff.
