“This evening some individual(s) have posted on social media that the same type of crime will occur in Bayonne High School tomorrow 12/11/19,” Bayonne Superintendent John J. Niesz said in a letter posted on the district’s home page Tuesday night.
Hours after six people died in a shootout in Jersey City Tuesday, police in neighboring Bayonne are investigating a threat of violence at the city’s high school, the school district said.
“This evening some individual(s) have posted on social media that the same type of crime will occur in Bayonne High School tomorrow 12/11/19,” Bayonne Superintendent John J. Niesz said in a letter posted on the district’s home page Tuesday night.

Niesz said police are “thoroughly investigating this incident,” but declined to provide details of the threat or if any of the individuals who posted the message had been caught.
“We will have security present as always and your children will be safe tomorrow. I am a retired police sergeant and I take this threat personally for all of our students, parents, guardians, faculty and staff,” Niesz wrote.
