A trend that is not sure to be good news for Israel : Russia continues to establish a military presence in southern Syria near the border with Israel, this was announced today (Sunday) on the “Evening News” program in Khan 11. In recent days, media outlets affiliated with the Assad government published documents of Russian military police patrols and of a new position in southern Syria of the Syrian army and the Russian army, a few kilometers from the border with Israel.
This position joins several other positions that the Russians placed on the administrative border between Deraa and Kunitra near the Golan Heights. This also joins recent sorties of Russian aircraft recorded in the skies of southern Syria near the border with Israel
According to a Syrian opposition source, who spoke to “Khan Havdas”, this Russian establishment comes after months of complete absence. It is not certain that this is good news for Israel, in light of the side that Russia has chosen in the war in Gaza and its rapprochement with Iran in the shadow of the cooperation between the parties in the war in Ukraine.
At the same time, the same source told “Khan News” that if Israel thinks that these positions will actually reduce the presence of Iran and its affiliates in Syria, it should think again because the Russians are doing nothing to curb the presence of Iran and its affiliates, including in southern Syria. In conclusion, if in the past an increased deployment of the Russians across the border was a positive thing, today it is not so positive.
