In 2009, President Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. In 2015 the BBC published a report headlined:

Geir Lundestad told the AP news agency that the committee hoped the award would strengthen Mr Obama.

The U.S. media did report on Trump’s 2016 nomination for the peace prize, which based on the same line of reasoning according to a report by Politico.
